Grandpa Stops War is a powerful and moving story about the life of Paul Robeson, a legendary singer, actor, and civil rights activist. The book follows Robeson's journey from his humble beginnings in Princeton, New Jersey, to his rise to international fame as a performer and his lifelong fight for justice and equality.
Born in 1898, Robeson was the son of a former slave and a schoolteacher. He showed a talent for singing and acting at an early age, and after graduating from Rutgers University, he went on to become a successful performer on Broadway and in Hollywood. However, Robeson's career was often overshadowed by his outspoken political views. He was a vocal critic of racism and colonialism, and he used his platform to speak out against injustice and oppression.
In 1941, Robeson traveled to the Soviet Union, where he was hailed as a hero. He returned to the United States a changed man, more committed than ever to fighting for social justice. He became involved in the civil rights movement and used his voice to speak out against segregation and discrimination.
Robeson's activism made him a target of the FBI and the House Un-American Activities Committee. He was blacklisted from Hollywood and his passport was revoked. However, he never gave up his fight for justice. He continued to perform and speak out against racism and oppression until his death in 1976.
Grandpa Stops War is a beautifully illustrated and inspiring story about a man who used his voice and his platform to make a difference in the world. The book is a must-read for anyone interested in the history of the civil rights movement and the power of one person to make a difference.
