Abstract Expressionism was a revolutionary art movement that emerged in New York City in the 1940s. These artists rejected the traditional conventions of painting, instead using their work to express their inner emotions and experiences. Their paintings were often characterized by their large size, bold colors, and gestural brushwork.

New Art City Manhattan At Mid Century features the work of some of the most important Abstract Expressionist artists, including Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, Adolph Gottlieb, Barnett Newman, and Clyfford Still. These artists helped to define the movement and their work continues to be admired and celebrated today.

The book is divided into four chapters, each of which focuses on a different aspect of the Abstract Expressionist movement. The first chapter, "The Birth of Abstract Expressionism," examines the early days of the movement and the artists who were involved in its development. The second chapter, "The New Art City," looks at the rise of New York City as the center of the art world and the role that the Abstract Expressionists played in this.

The third chapter, "The Golden Age of Abstract Expressionism," explores the period from the late 1940s to the mid-1950s, which is considered to be the golden age of the movement. During this time, the Abstract Expressionists produced some of their most iconic works and the movement gained international recognition.

The fourth chapter, "The End of Abstract Expressionism," examines the decline of the movement in the late 1950s and early 1960s. As the art world began to change, the Abstract Expressionists lost their dominance and new movements emerged to take their place.

New Art City Manhattan At Mid Century is a beautifully illustrated and informative book that provides a comprehensive overview of the Abstract Expressionist movement. It is a must-have for anyone interested in art history or the work of these groundbreaking artists.
